How to Participate in EPEAT

In order to participate in EPEAT and register products a manufacturer must sign an Agreement with the GEC and pay an annual use fee.

• Click here to download a copy of the Agreement, including the fee schedule, in Adobe Acrobat format.

Once GEC has received the signed Agreement and the fee the manufacturer will be given a username, password, and instructions on how they can access the Product Registry at http://www.epeat.net to register their products.

The manufacturer will also then be added to the list of participating manufacturers on http://www.epeat.net.

Assessment Tool

  • An EPEAT Assessment Tool spreadsheet with the criteria categories is available to assist in determining the EPEAT level of a product.
  • After this form is completed it may be submitted to the GEC.

How to Register a Product

Once the manufacturer has obtained a username and password from GEC as described above, they can register products.

In order to register products a manufacturer must have a copy of IEEE 1680. This standard can be purchased from the IEEE at http://shop.ieee.org/ieeestore/. Simply search for 1680.

There are two types of criteria in IEEE 1680 that manufacturers must declare conformance to:

  • Annual report criteria are declared by the manufacturer submitting an annual report to the GEC. One report covers all products. Some of the Annual Report Criteria are required for all EPEAT levels, so no product registration can be completed until GEC receives the annual report.
  • Product criteria are declared as below.

Product criteria are declared in either of two methods:

  • Manufacturers can use the web interface provided as part of the Product Registry tool. This involves entering a small amount of information about the product and then clicking a series of Yes/No radio buttons corresponding to the criteria of IEEE 1680.
  • Manufacturers can download an Excel spreadsheet, enter their product information into it, then upload it to the registry. This spreadsheet is also a handy tool for evaluating what EPEAT level a product is before registering it, and it is available to the public at http://www.epeat.net/manufacturers/.

On GEC’s receipt of the Annual Report, and the manufacturer’s entering the product criteria, the product will appear on the EPEAT Registry.

Note that all registered products are subject to verification by GEC.
